April has been a busy month for us! Our remix of "Like Minded People" is now up on Bandcamp, replacing the original version. “Say what??” we hear you exclaim. Well, as Joe Biden might say: Here's the deal!
We first released LMP on Bandcamp in October of 2023 but, on further listens, both Tim and I felt it wasn't... quite... right. So, we went back to the drawing board, tweaking a few lyrics, adjusting a few audio levels, and giving the ending gong the gong (i.e. removing it from the track entirely). The other fun thing was rediscovering an unreleased track we'd recorded back in 2023 called “Sunshine”. A friend of ours in the publishing community challenged us to ”write a song with a sunny theme” for possible use in a TV show. As happens in these situations, it was a very tight turn around for a very competitive opportunity, and (no surprise) it took ages to get word that someone else got the gig. By then we'd moved on to other projects – and thereafter forgot about this orphaned song completely.
Revisiting the original tracks, we agreed that it had “good bones” but needed a bit more TLC. Tim added a subtle ukulele part (few instruments are as sunny as a uke!), and I engaged in a remix, creating a bit of sound design in strategic places. At the end of the process, it's a new day for Sunshine! We even have a video that we'll be posting on our video page in the coming weeks. The plan is to release both the song and the video on Friday, May 10th. With luck, it'll be a sunny day.
