THE DIFFICULT SECOND ALBUM HAS BEEN RELEASED

Shout it from the rooftops!  On Friday, June 29th, through the magic that is digital release, our 2nd collection of music was uncorked on Spotify and other streaming platforms.  Check it out and spread the word!  Wherever you are in the world, we're indeed ready to please you for (fractions of) pennies per stream.   More to follow in the coming days.

Eric and Tim

It's the end of April? What the heck???

Let me first address the elephant in the room. Or maybe the rhino in the room. Our vow to connect monthly with friends on the MuuMuu Murmors blog has been an epic Fail. Given that our last post was in December 2025, and it is now April 2026, there's no hiding the fact that... we are unreliable, albeit well-intentioned, correspondents.

That noted... here is the good news.

After innumerable delays, twists, turns and “oh – by the way”s, the The Difficult Second Album project is finally coming to fruition. The new songs will be available in the UK and USA on both CD and vinyl. And the album will also be available on the major streaming platforms.

In fact, the physical CDs have just been shipped and should be delivered to us soon.

The physical LPs should be delivered to us toward the end of May or early June.

The digital release on Spotify and other streaming services is currently slated for Friday, May 29th.

Needless to say, we are delighted.  As are the cows of Twyford who agreed to be on the cover artwork purely for the “exposure” that it would afford them.  Little did they know (nor did we) that it would take a full year from the photo shoot until the project release.

Meanwhile, after a year apart, Tim and I are about to spend some time together in person here in the States. Our families will be sharing some vacation time, traveling a bit in the southern states, then returning to the Boston area at the back end of the trip (which will conclude with a Red Sox night game at Fenway Park). Those of you steeped in MuuMuu lore may recall that Tim and I were in attendance at one of the MLB games in London back in June of 2019 when the NY Yankees made Hagis of the Sox in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Hopefully the hometown team will fare better against the Houston Astros. But I digress.

No doubt there will be opportunities during this upcoming get-together to bat around some musical ideas and concoct plans for future MuuMuu endeavors. We already have 4 songs in the bank toward our next release which, assuming the world holds together and the crik don't rise, will not take another 2+ years to complete! This from the people who promised back in December of last year to post blogs more frequently...

In the meantime, thanks for looking in!

Random thoughts as 2025 comes to an end...

Ah, December.  The season of mellow fruit-fullness and consumer madness is once again upon us and its good news and bad news from your chums in Ditch the MuuMuu.

First the bad news. The Difficult 2nd Album will not be ready to purchase as a Christmas 2025 stocking stuffer for your loved ones just yet (insert appropriate other religious festival of giving here).  Now the good news; it will be ready to buy, download, and clutch to your bosom some time in early 2026.

As I write this missive from within the granite walls of MuuMuu tower’s plush U.K. headquarters, I am listening back to our 13 new tracks with a smile on my face. Yes, 13 mini masterpieces - recorded in hand-picked studios the length and breadth of the known world.

Contributing musicians are even now clambering to have their names correctly spelled on the sleeve notes. We are carefully considering cover art - always a tricky subject - but we think we might have the image.  A candid shot of our heroes and 2 cows relaxing in a Twyford, UK field (Eric and Tim relaxing. What the cows were doing is… debatable).

Equally tricky is sequencing the tracks. What order should they be in?  Do the songs follow on from each other? Should we a shock our dedicated listeners with adjacent clashing styles and genres?  These are the things I think about.

Meanwhile, I’m struggling with the simple fact that when we get a run of vinyl albums pressed, we are apparently restricted to just 18 mins a side, which won’t leave room for all of the afore mentioned 13 songs.  And you had the audacity to wonder why we are calling this “The Difficult Second Album”!

So, what’s a MuuMuu to do?

Some of the new tunes will be held back, of course.  But fear not. They shall find their way into the world, possibly as bonus material on a CD.  They might even appear on the next vinyl project that we are calling “The Improbable 3rd Album”. In the meantime, they are already available as singles, purchasable and downloadable from Bandcamp. Just visit www.ditchthemuumuu.bandcamp.com
Serious consideration is being given to releasing the next epic in mono and as wax cylinder or car 8 track cassette only.
Add into the mix the fact that my home studio has ‘crashed’ again, and that Eric is working on a new piece of music featuring a snoring dog called Finn… who knows what the future holds. But rest assured that DTM will be there, “conquering world 2 ears at a time”!

Our best wishes to you for a marvelous holiday season.

How hard can it be to post a blog?

How hard can it be to write a monthly blog? Perhaps I should rephrase the question – how hard can it be to remember to write a monthly blog? Apparently it is extremely difficult! True confession: I often wake in the middle of the night and think “gotta do that blog tomorrow”... But when the day begins, that thought has vanished faster than a Presidential promise. Today I make amends.

As usual, there is a lot going on in the world of Ditch The MuuMuu. We have indeed completed recording 12 songs for The Difficult 2nd Album. They're all posted (as singles) on Bandcamp if you want to get a jump on the album release. Just head over to www.ditchthemuumuu.bandcamp.com and have a listen.  If you're so inclined, you can also purchase each as a downloadable single. In fact, we had a few sales this month – which is always a delight.

Having made the decision to release TD2ndA on vinyl, Tim is investigating options for pressing a limited number of copies in the UK plus, perhaps, CDs as well.

Oddly, CDs are not much of a thing here in the USA any more. Most newer cars don't have players in them, and with the pernicious plethora of music streaming options, household CD players via conventional stereo systems have steadily gone the way of the buffalo. That is not as true in the UK, where DTM have sold far more CDs than we have here in America. That said, feel free to contact us if you'd like to snag a copy of “Worth Its Wait” from our current inventory. :)

We're very excited about releasing on vinyl which, if you don't know, has been experiencing a worldwide resurgence. I am particularly keen on it because... it grants me permission to actually buy a turntable – and to justify opportunities to buy old (and new) LPs when I come across them. Of course we know that turntables can be as rare as CD players but we're children of the classic album age. While CDs (opened or unopened) make for fine beverage coasters, albums (opened or unopened) make for much better wall art. It's all about making a statement, right?

The plan is to have physical “product” on both sides of the Atlantic. The “killer” cost with vinyl is usually shipping, but we'll do our best to keep things affordable. More to follow.

Stop the presses!

An exciting development to announce: there's a new band we're involved with called Known World. Tim and I have partnered with another US-based friend, Christina White, a fine classically trained musician, vocalist and arranger, to produce and release music for TV and film. Our first two songs are nearing completion. One is called “Hand of a Child”. The other, “Solstice Day (Re-mix)”, is a luscious reworking of the DTM ballad that first appeared on “Worth Its Wait”. If all goes according to plan, we'll be signing these and similar songs to a production music label sometime in 2026. Watch this space for further announcements, including special ways you can preview these Known World compositions.

That's it for now. Our pledge is to post again in December – ideally toward the holidays. But... as always... one never knows!

Correcting an error and other developments

Well, well, well... Guess who didn't follow through on last month's “we promised the people” list? That would be me (Eric). It seems that I neglected to put our new song called “Pretty Poison” up on the Bandcamp site. Tim referenced it heavily in our last post and... All I can say is: Oooops.

Having now corrected that error (check out https://ditchthemuumuu.bandcamp.com/track/pretty-poison to verify), we can safely move on to other promises!

It has indeed been extremely busy in MuuMuuland. Since last we wrote, and despite family vacations and other assorted business, we've nearly completed the final songs for The Difficult 2nd Album project. Really? Truly! Following on the heels of Pretty Poison, we started and have nearly completed a touching ballad called “Not A Prayer”, and have finally finished mixing a heap of background vocals for the aptly titled song called “Hurry Up And Wait”.*

But that is not all. As a bonus extra, I have revisited an old song of mine from the mid 1970's – completely re-working the lyrics. This tune goes back to our university days in East Anglia. In fact, it is one that Tim would have sung with our then band, Yankee Go Home, when we performed in the pubs of Norwich, England. It's now called “Forty Seven Fears” and Tim did a masterful job on background vocals, incorporating some of the elements we did back in the day. It's now a righteous rock song that is quite cathartic to sing. I know that because my local trio, Side Street, has been performing it this summer at all of our shows. But I digress...

We're not yet certain that all of our “newly” written songs will make it onto The Difficult 2nd Album simply because some of them veer off in different sonic directions. However, we'll absolutely release all of them as singles on Bandcamp. So keep your eyes (and ears) open for new postings. And let us know what you think about “Pretty Poison” which features our friend Ben Swan on drums.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

*  For those of you who noticed the asterisk and are now reading this - a bit of MuuMuu trivia.  On our first album (Worth Its Wait), Tim's daughter, Vinnie, contributed background vocals on our song "Make Amends".  In a full circle moment, my daughter, Kate, can be heard on "Hurry Up And Wait".  When will you get to hear the grandkids?   That's gotta be in the cards for the future, right?

Surf's Up and other thoughts

Thoughts on Brian Wilson's Passing

I am writing this with tears in my eyes having just heard that Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys has died.  He was one of the greatest influences on my musical life.  Thank you Brian for writing, singing and playing some of the finest popular music in the world. I had the honour of singing ‘Good Vibrations’ at the Cambridge theatre in London’s West End virtually every night for 2 years as part of “Return To The Forbidden Planet”.  Those were good vibrations indeed!

MuuMuu Progress

Its not often in the MuuMuu-sphere that we get a 2nd bite of the cherry, but now we have.

The track ‘Pretty Poison ‘ (which might or might not be the “pen”-ultimate track on the “Difficult 2nd Album” ) started life as a gentle, reflective piece with lyrics exploring the follies of the excesses in life. For example - the Rock ‘n’ Roll life styles favoured by some.

When the rough demos of ‘Pretty Poison’ were played to discerning folk  (“2 ears at a time”, remember ) several of those ears, connected to brains and mouths, pointed out that “You can’t call it pretty poison if it’s a gentle ballad”. Hmmm…  Point taken, the tempo was increased in a new rough demo and, voila, it kicked ass!  My drummer friend Ben Swan was then engaged at vast expense and personal risk. His job - to beat the living daylights out of his Gretsch drum kit to achieve that “oh so authentic, it hurts “ sound that only his exclusive South London studio environs can provide ……and both he and it, did it!

Please note the photographic evidence of this monumental occasion with Mr E. S. Luskin on the desk.  By the way, that is NOT an American flag on screen - rather a red white and blue display of the Logic recording software.

We now had the framework to re-record the tune's other parts as a rock anthem.  Alright, yours truly is not Robert Plant or Axle Rose but, in my mind I am!

When you enjoy ‘Pretty Poison’ (and soon you will be able to on our Bandcamp site), please marvel at Rick’s skillful application of silly amounts of EQ to achieve his fascinating vocal sound. It mimics ace producer John Parish’s uses of a ‘wazz- a- phone’ on our track ‘Blown away‘ that he produced earlier this year.

The eagle eared amongst you may also notice in the background the sound of an unfamiliar acoustic guitar. An Epiphone AJ45 to be precise, not an instrument normally associated with DTMM. I actually found this beast in a dumpster and restored it to working condition for your delectation and delight in the mischievous spirit of “Why the heck not ?”

In the mean time “Take your pretty poison “ but, as the warning label clearly indicates, please do it responsibly.

Blog neglect is sometimes due to an abundance of blessings

I can't believe that our last post was back in February.   Wot?????

We honestly intend to provide updates on all things MuuMuu on a monthly basis.  Why?  Actually, that is a good question!  Clearly it is not because the press are clamoring for the latest MuuMuu details – though the media did surprise us recently with a wonderful (and mostly true) article in the UK's Hampshire Chronicle!

https://www.hampshirechronicle.co.uk/news/25108044.ditch-muumuu-album-cover-twyford-water-meadows/?ref=socialflow#

We (unreliably it would seem) write and post this blog ourselves because our “assistant” refuses to assist unless we pay a fair and livable wage.  And since our music doesn't (yet) generate a fair and livable wage for us, said assistant assisteth not.  It's a perfect arrangement.

But I digress.  Here in Luskin land, it was a very, very busy month of March, followed by a ton of travel in April.  The first week we were in the San Francisco area for a family wedding. After returning home for a few days, we then jetted off to London for a long overdue vacation visiting with Tim and his family.

We Bostonians were last in the UK back in June of 2019, so it felt great to be back. Among the many joys of this journey - actually having some Eric/Tim time together to rehearse and perform some Ditch The MuuMuu material.

As the above article confirms, a long awaited Ditch The MuuMuu UK tour indeed took place.  A tour?  How exciting!

Actually, it was a mini-tour.

Well, really, a micro-mini-tour...

Two bona fide gigs in 24 hours, with an epic in-transit car breakdown thrown in for good measure.

We opened with an exclusive showcase at the acclaimed Swiss Cottage in Twyford (outside of Winchester) on April 17th.

The following day, we overcame the stress of Maddie the Volvo's late afternoon in-transit engine failure (smack dab in the middle of London traffic)…

to delight the locals at Nunhead's The Man Of Kent pub.

A few days later, still riding the high from MuuMuu Mania, we scheduled some time in a nearby studio with our friend Ben Swan who added drums for our soon-to-be-released single called “Pretty Poison”.  We're very excited about this one. It's a rocker - and Bashin' Ben absolutely nailed it.

We packed a lot into two weeks!  It was hard to say good bye but, after much frivolity, historic gardens, theatre (3 shows), and day trips to touristy places and off-the-beaten-path gems, it was time for Terry and me to return to reality.  Best of all, our friendship with the Barrons endures, and the proof-of-concept gigs were a smashing success. Recording and writing at a distance is one thing. But we really can play live music in front of live people. THAT was the icing on the cake.

More MuuMuu news to follow in May.  I'll get Tim started on that now. :)

2025. Where did January go? And what have we been up to?

2025 is here ... in fact, it's February already. Lots to report.

Firstly, we released “TWO EARS AT A TIME” via Bandcamp on January 17th, a song that two brains (mine and Tim's) completely forgot to release. We certainly dropped the ball on that one!  It's a fun, very MuuMuu ditty (filled with lots of self deprecating lyrics) that we actually completed back in May of last year. I'd like to say that the delayed reveal for this song was due to a long, protracted and fierce battle with our record company. But, sadly, we don't have a record company. We're just easily distracted!

“Two ears At A Time” started life as an instrumental track way back at the start of the pandemic in 2020. The original title was “Kaffeinated Kolty” – an homage to a family friend's very active toddler. It was featured as an up-tempo song for a personal trainer to use as background music in her heart pumping Zoom exercise classes. Some time later – back in April 2024 – Tim and I were casting about for a new MuuMuu song and I proposed that we adapt this snappy rocker. Once I deleted a number of gratuitous guitar solos to create room for lyrics and vocals, it evolved into a tune that proudly highlights our MuuMuu mission. Though progress is slow, we continue to conquer the world two ears at a time and remain ready to please you for pennies a stream. Check it out at https://ditchthemuumuu.bandcamp.com/track/two-ears-at-a-time

Even bigger news is the re-commissioning of Mancave Studios after a protracted home renovation. For various reasons, the project took 14 months to complete. During that time my wife and I were in “exile”, using our daughter's basement as home base. Yes, we were able to help out a lot with our now halfway-through-Kindergarten granddaughter. And we're thankful that her family put up with us for all that time – including the temporary inconvenience of musical endeavors emanating from the subterranean space that Tim dubbed Fluffy Bunny Studios. Needless to say, three generations were delighted when we returned home in early December. But I digress. The point is, I now enjoy a very hip, designated space from which MuuMuu music and other projects can percolate. That, my friends, is a win!

Speaking of wins, and returning to the theme of reworking material, January also saw the re-mixing of one of the “new” songs that will be on our forthcoming sophomore collection “The Difficult Second Album”. We originally released it in July 2023 as a single, the 4th song destined for this project.

The astute among you will recall that one of Tim's former band mates (in Thieves Like Us) is the superb producer/musician John Parish who often works with one PJ Harvey. Yes. THAT PJ Harvey. Anyhow, John had heard the initial mix of “Blown Away” on our Bandcamp site and offered to give it a master producer/engineer's touch. After Tim and I reworked some lyrics that, in retrospect, weren't quite right, Mr. Barron headed out to Bristol (UK) for a day of studio fun. I had e-mailed John the original tracks (or stems, as they're called) from the Mancave – and they arrived without incident. Magic then ensued – including the addition of new Tim backing vocals using a very rare microphone called a “Wasaphone”. I expect that we'll be able to re-post the new mix sometime in Mid February (on Bandcamp); we'll alert the media when that happens. Needless to say, we're … blown away... by John's contributions and are ecstatic that he will have mixed two songs for the new project (the other being “Hiding History” which you can also find on Bandcamp).

Let me close this missive by letting you know that there are more MuuMuu songs in the pipeline. Plans are for me to head over to London in April when our families can hang out a bit, do some traveling, and experience things that will likely end up in future Ditch The MuuMuu compositions.

Technical Issues or How a London bus wrecked several recording sessions

If you have been wondering what have those DTM fellows been up to, here is the answer.  “A lot!”

Where is the music then?” I here shouted from both sides of the pond.

Well, we have been battling technical issues which make raising the Titanic look as simple as pulling the plug on the North Atlantic (a wild exaggeration, but you catch my drift.)

In mid November, Eric's temporary “Fluffy Bunny Studios” reached the end of its natural life. The Bunny Master general burrowed his way out of his daughter's basement and - as we speak - is setting up the gear in new premises…  After a 14 month home rebuild, Man Cave Studios will soon be operational again.  Hooray!

Meanwhile, in London, Tresco Road Studios was beset by technical troubles beyond the patience of a saint. The 8 track recording system that I have used for many of our past tracks has finally expired. Prayers were said and wise words were spoken. “It has done you proud !” – Indeed. The curator of the Victoria & Albert museum caught wind of this and called to ask if they could display the corpse in their “obsolete recording gear” section.

Not one but two replacement recorders were purchased and returned as they both developed the same fault – jamming in record mode. The only way to turn the machine off was to unplug it, thus loosing the recordings that yours truly had spent blood, sweat and tears over. (Good name for a band !?)  Time to try a different manufacturer's product, right?

Now our hero is struggling over a shiny new 20 track recorder. Yes! 20 tracks, count them… It is clearly intellectually superior to its operator and is proving a tricky nut to crack. But that's not all.

Several sessions were abandoned because of the discovery of a rogue vibration distorting playback when the note of “C” was played (That’s 130.813 Hertz if you want to know –and who doesn’t).

Could the fault be the monitor speakers? Surely not. 6 different guitars were tried to no avail. It still distorted. Visions of £ & $ appeared in front of my eyes in true Loony Tunes style.

Finally, after moving a wide variety of books, pictures, model cars, pots of pens and treasured mementos of a life in show business, a small tin toy London bus was found to be the culprit --vibrating whenever a “C” note was played. Remove the bus, remove the distortion! Simple but frustrating.

The key of the song we were working on? Of course, it’s C

The title of the song? “Hurry Up and wait“.  How appropriate.

Art mimicking life? Life mimicking art ? You choose …

Dec 1st, 2024

Meanwhile...

… several months have now been torn off the calendar! No matter what the season, time has a way of getting away from us. And it's happened again!

As October draws toward its end, I marvel at the number of days that pass between my “I must update the blog” thought and my actually doing so. We strive for a monthly update. But sometimes that interval gets stretched out a bit. Apparently. Our last post was in August. Yikes!

Still, I am agape at the people we're able to reach - literally around the world - with our ongoing musical project. Despite no new “content” these past few months, we've had visitors to the website from folks in Istanbul Turkey, Montreal Canada, Nuremberg, Germany, and Warsaw Poland. Here in the States we've seen folks from Charlottesville Virginia, Columbus Ohio, Corona California, Four Oaks North Carolina, Harleysville and Philadelphia Pennsylvania, as well as Needham and Hingham Massachusetts. We are indeed conquering the world 2 ears at a time!

So what has been going on with Ditch The MuuMuu? The good news is that we have a new song that we'll be releasing on Bandcamp in a few weeks time. It's a tune that I started here in Boston that was subsequently developed by Tim. It's now a song called “Fractured Feelings”.

It's taken a while to get to the current mix which, in truth, I am still tinkering with behind the scenes. More on that later. In the interest of moving forward (our last release was “Sunshine” back in May, 2024), we'll post the current incarnation and see what sort of reaction it gets. It's been an eventful summer for both of us and “Fractured Feelings” taps into that zeitgeist.

Meanwhile, there are two other songs that are awaiting our MuuMuu development process. While we're eager to proceed, Mancave Studio (my home recording space in the Boston suburbs) has been under extended renovation and isn't quite ready for action.  And our temporary facility (Fluffy Bunny Studio) is on the cusp of being dismantled in preparation for the move back. While there is still work that Tim and I can do over the next 4-6 weeks, our “normal” work flow is now hindered by what Rolls Royce calls “a failure to proceed.”     No problem - we're quate adept at maneuvering bumpy roads!

Thus I have been obsessing over “Fractured Feelings” - using the down time to tinker with alternate mixes/versions and trying to incorporate feedback from friends and colleagues. Is any one version definitively better than another? It is hard to say! Your comments on the Bandcamp release will truly be appreciated.
Onward!
