What a busy summer it has been! Once we had rescheduled the London Symphony Orchestra, put off Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift & Harry Styles… the Tresco Road Studios were free of riff raff and we were set to roll tape. The resulting Ditch The MuuMuu recording can now be heard - released on Bandcamp on 25/8/23.
The song, ‘Ladies who Sing ‘, marks the first time our South London studios have been graced by outside musicians to make MuuMuumusic. My dear friends (and divine human beings) Jane Milligan & Wendy Parkin (plus their dog, Scrumpy) came in to add authenticity to the track - being ladies who sing and sing exquisitely. Scrumpy did not sing or howl but did manage to devour a tin of biscuits.
The track is an attempt to express the on stage feeling of having fellow musicians to the left & to the
right, all dedicated to the common goal of “Getting Down!” I imagine it must be similar to playing for a great sports team like Crystal Palace or The Boston Celtics. However, the chances of either of us finding out are slim!
Our third imported musician was Kate Edgar. “What Key is it in?” enquires Kate across her Downton studio where we had booked the session. “A minor… “ An audible groan followed. “Thanks a bunch!” she retorted. Ah, the joys of working with Saxophonists who (for reasons best known to Belgian Adolph Sax) play a full tone below us lesser mortals.
She actually scored the horn parts that Eric first imagined 3,000 miles away in Mancave studios, allowing us to replace his dubiously executed MIDI parts with real tenor Sax on ‘Ladies who sing’. We think you'll agree with us that Kate's tones are awesome.
What a joy to be able to work again with musicians I have respected and loved working with over
the years all over the world.
But wait - there's more. Yet another imported musician! Back in the USA, Eric's daughter Kate took her place in front of a Mancave microphone, adding to the backing vocals. With all the parts in place, the final mix was completed.
